Starting & Running a Special Education Parent Advisory Group Workshop

Please join us on Wednesday October 7, 2015 at Memorial School in Woodland Park to learn about our new Special Education Parent Advisory Group.

This workshop is designed to have open conversation about developing or reorganizing a district Special Education Parent Advisory Group.

Anyone interested in understanding the function of an effective SEPAG or would like more information to run or start a group is welcome.

All school districts in New Jersey are required to "ensure that a special education parent advisory group is in place in the district to provide input to the district on issues concerning students with disabilities" (N.J.A.C. 6A:14-1.2h).

Admission is free, however we ask that you register for this event.

We are just getting started.

Special Education Parent Advisory Groups are required for all school districts in New Jersey. The purpose of these groups is to provide opportunities for parents and community members to offer input to their districts on critical issues relating to students with disabilities.

The parents of Woodland Park New Jersey have organized new group called WP SNAC - Woodland Park Special Needs Advisory Committee.

The purpose of our group is:
  • To provide direct input on the policies, programs and practices that impact services and supports for children with disabilities and their families.
  • To increase the involvement of families of children with special needs in making recommendations on special education policy.

  • To advicse on matters that pertain to the education, helath and safety of children with special needs.

  •  To advise on unmet needs of children with disabilities.

Next meeting is Wednesday Aug 26 at 7pm in the WP Board office.
